HTC Grip band release date: gets Bluetooth certified by SIG, coming anytime soon

Taiwanese firm HTC Corporation has been working on a new smart wearable device which is scheduled to be released exclusively for the U.S. market.

CNET reported earlier that the new wearable device will cost about US$200 and is expected to be launched sometime this spring.

Called the HTC Grip, the device was unveiled back in March during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 event in Barcelona, Spain, and is being developed in collaboration with Under Armour.

Just recently, the HTC Grip band device, which is designed for athletes and ordinary users alike, reappeared after being certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), according to GSM Arena. SIG's listing mentions that the wearable device is a fitness band and was created back in March 4.

The HTC Grip is expected to come with a 1.8 inch PMOLED display screen with a 32 x 160 pixel resolution. The wearable device supports Android 4.3 version and above and Apple's iOS 7 and above. It connects to smartphones via Bluetooth connectivity.

In addition, the HTC Grip will be powered by a 100 mAh battery which, according to GSM Arena, will provide would-be owners up to five hours battery life with GPS and up to three days battery life without GPS.

As of this time, it's unclear when the new device will arrive in the U.S. market, but since it has received Bluetooth certification already, it's possible that it might come out very soon.

HTC has been struggling recently after the launch of its One M9 handset this year. The Taiwanese company is reportedly planning to launch a new smartphone before the end of this year as part of its efforts to improve its foothold in the smartphone market. The new device is expected to come with high-end specs and improved performance over its predecessors.
