How 'Star Wars Battlefront 2' will connect with film series

"Star Wars Battlefront 2" single-player game director Mark Thompson has revealed that the game will be closely linked with the story of the film series, specifically, the Skywalker saga.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Thompson said that one of the inspirations for the story is Alexander Freed's "Twilight Company" novel, in which one chapter features a Stormtrooper that has received information about the war, details that are not featured in the film. He expressed that it was "inspiring" to read about what that character was like and what it meant to be in and out of uniform.

The "Star Wars Battlefront 2" protagonist of the single-player campaign is Iden, a member of the Imperial army, which is seen as the enemy in the "Star Wars" series. She and her team will seek vengeance against the Resistance for the death of the Emperor in "Return of the Jedi."

The director also dismissed the possible antagonism that Iden, a female character, may receive. He said, "My personal belief is it's just about making a good character. I don't care about anything else. If the character makes sense to the story, if the character belongs in that universe, then everything else is unimportant." He explained that the character has to be relatable, despite the fact that she is a member of what is seen by series fans as the villainous group.

Another connection that the game will have in the film series is that "Battlefront 2" will feature a character called "The Messenger," which Thompson described as a "contingency" of the Emperor, which will be the one to call the shots and provide direction to the high-ranking figures of what remains of the Empire.

"Star Wars Battlefront 2" will be released on Nov. 17. It will be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. According to WWG, it is likely that PlayStation 4 players will get VR-exclusive content.
