The Houston Rockets continue to lock in on their free agents after agreeing to sign guard K.J. McDaniels, a restricted free agent, to a three-year pact worth $10 million last Sunday.
McDaniels was acquired by the Rockets before the trade deadline last season from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for point guard Isaiah Canaan and a 2015 second-round pick.
The 22-year-old basketball player was barely utilized by Houston last season as he played in only 10 games and did not even make an appearance in the playoffs.
Nevertheless, he played in 52 games averaging 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks per outing in his time with the 76ers during the 2014-15 season.
"It's about time we got it done, and I'm just happy to be a part of such a great organization. I felt like this was the right place for me because I'm loyal to the team," McDaniels told the Houston Chronicle.
He added, "I have a great relationship with the players on the team. The city was great to me. I love the organization. I love the history behind the Rockets and the greats that played there. It's just a blessing."
Despite playing limited minutes with the Rockets last season, McDaniels is a budding player who can be an offensive threat for the team next season since he showed flashes of it during his stint with Philadelphia.
"I feel like I bring a lot of energy, a lot of excitement to the game, being a good teammate. I think I can bring a lot," McDaniels also told the Houston Chronicle.
Along with McDaniels, the Rockets also re-signed free agents point guard Patrick Beverley (restricted) and forward Corey Brewer (unrestricted).
Houston also plans to re-sign free agent guard Jason Terry with the team only losing one free agent so far in forward Josh Smith who inked a veterans minimum deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.
