Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) will hold Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) responsible for his bungled advancement in the CIA in the upcoming season of "Homeland."

The International Business Times reports that Saul, who is gunning for the top position in the intelligence unit, has been passed over for a different candidate. He will reportedly blame former friend and co-worker Carrie for what happened, as he believes that her lack of support in his bid cost him the much needed work upgrade.

In a teaser released by Showtime, Patinkin said that his character will be more "ignited" and "alive" than usual in the upcoming season. This may pertain to his building angst for the ex-CIA agent, but the actor was also quick to note that no matter what Saul has and would become, he would always opt for a better world.

"He will do anything it takes to make this world a better place. Saul might be angry, he might be hurt, but at the end of the day, he probably is the best in the business."

Meanwhile, director and executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter hinted that Saul will be a lot different in season 8, as he becomes "more a company man than he has been before." It is significant to note, however, that he will not be losing his "dangerous side" which viewers have come to expect from the CIA man.

In an earlier promo, Patinkin's character could be seen giving Quinn (Rupert Friend), Carrie's love interest, strict orders which may be related to a planned bombing. It certainly looked like Saul has ordered the agent to kill someone, as in the clip, a man could be seen tied up in a corner while the latter was setting up an explosive.

Friend has promised that the upcoming installment will be more volatile as the action moves to Berlin, a city with a history of espionage. He said that this will add drama to the brewing battle between the CIA and the terrorists.

"This season has great focus on information generation. We are looking at how secrets are traded and given up not just at the top governmental level but grassroots," said Friend.

"Homeland" season 5 will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
