Green Bay Packers NFL 2015 roster news: James Starks to replace Eddie Lacy as starting running back

A new running back will start for the Green Bay Packers when they take on the Detroit Lions this Sunday as James Starks just got promoted to the position that originally belonged to struggling Eddie Lacy.

Lacy, who was the Packers' starting running back since coming to the National Football League (NFL) in 2013, has been having a hard time putting up the same numbers he had in the past two seasons.

In a report by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Lacy said he does not know what is happening to his game this 2015.

As the 25-year-old running back's production goes downhill, one running back emerged for Green Bay in its past few games, earning him the starting nod when it faces Detroit.

Starks has been playing well for the Packers and head coach Mike McCarthy decided to replace Lacy as a starter at least for one game as of now.

"I would say James is our No. 1 back right now, going into Detroit," McCarthy said, according to the team's website.

But it looks like Starks did not lock up the starting job for the season yet as McCarthy added, "He has played very well and he earned that opportunity. But I'm not a big believer in just riding one running back the whole season, so we'll stay with the 1-2 punch."

This season, Starks has 78 carries for 334 yards, which already exceeded his total rushing yards in the 2014 season, and one touchdown in eight games.

Meanwhile in eight games, Lacy has more carries with 83 but only for 308 yards and two touchdowns.

Following a blistering 6–0 start to the season, the Packers have lost their last two games against top teams the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.

Having a new and, hopefully, improved lineup with Starks starting, Green Bay aims to return on the winning track when they host the Lions at Lambeau Field this Sunday.
