Tight end Andrew Quarless will be missing four to six weeks of action for the Green Bay Packers with a sprained medial collateral ligament (MCL) suffered in their win over the Kansas City Chiefs last Monday.
Quarless will not play when the Packers pursue a 4–0 record against the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday since he was placed on injured reserve.
According to ESPN, tests taken Tuesday revealed Quarless' injury, which he acquired after getting hit by Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters in the left knee during the second quarter of Monday's game.
A former starter, Quarless is the Packers' second string tight end behind Richard Rodgers to whom he lost starting duties.
The 26-year-old footballer played in three games this season and in their game against the Chiefs listed his first receptions finishing with two for 14 yards.
Green Bay only has three tight ends in their roster and these are Quarless, Rodgers, and 2015 sixth-round draft pick Kennard Backman.
Backman was listed as inactive in their first three games but with the loss of Quarless will likely be getting his first taste of regular season action, ESPN reported.
Quarless' sprained MCL is another huge blow for the Packers who have been dealing with injuries even before the 2015 regular season began.
In the preseason, leading wide receiver Jordy Nelson was ruled out for the 2015 season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
Currently, the Packers are dealing with injuries to running back Eddie Lacy and wide receiver Davante Adams.
Lacy is being bothered by an ankle injury while Adams has an ankle sprain suffered in their Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
Adams played in their game against the Chiefs but only lasted three plays before again hurting the ankle and leaving.
Despite all the injuries, Green Bay remains dominant with the leadership of reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Aaron Rodgers, who is having one of the best seasons in his career so far.
