'Gotham' season 2 update: Promo teases Mr. Freeze's arrival

If the comeback episode title for "Gotham" season 2 is not clear enough, the new promo clip sure is: Mr. Freeze is coming to town!

When "Gotham" season 2 returns from its midseason break in February, it will come back with an episode titled "Cold, Dark Nights." Judging from the title, episode 1 is expected to introduce yet another modernized Batman supervillain, Mr. Freeze.

If anyone still has doubts that he will be appearing soon as the superhero series returns, FOX silences those doubts with a teaser promo clip.

A short promo clip was uploaded on the DC show's official YouTube account and it dropped with the most perfect timing, too, as it echoes the season's cold, cold days.

The video starts off with a shot of a burning garbage can then zooms out to the alley to see everything starting to freeze over. The same happens to all of "Gotham." Then it simply teases, "The Freeze is coming."

While the season 2 return is the fans' first official look at Mr. Freeze, they have already been treated to a sneak peek during the winter finale. He didn't look like Mr. Freeze back then but was "normal" cryogenics engineer Victor Fries (Nathan Darrow), working at Wayne Enterprises.

In that episode, he was on his "beta stage," says "Gotham" creator Bruno Heller to TVLine. But he promises that the show will continue to explore Freeze's classic story.

Darrow also talked to USA Today about how his character is going to be portrayed in the Batman-related TV show. He echoed what Heller said and described a Mr. Freeze that's very similar to the one fans knew way back during "Batman: The Animated Series."

See more of Mr. Freeze when "Gotham" season 2returns to FOX on Feb. 29, 2016.

In the meantime, see the new promo clip below.
