Google Nexus 2016 release date rumors: Two HTC devices launching in August?

According to a report from Neurogadget, the next lineup of Google Nexus phones may be two devices being developed by HTC. It is further indicated that these two phones could be launching as early as this August due to rumors that Android 7, codenamed Nougat, will be rolling out by the end of July.

Neurogadget reports that the first device is likely to be referred to as the Nexus Sailfish or Nexus S1. This, however, is not going to be the main smart phone as it will serve as a successor to the LG Nexus 5X. The Nexus Marlin aka Nexus M1 is stated to be the real flagship device. Both will reportedly carry Android Nougat upon release.

Trusted Reviews points out that rumors have surfaced of Android N ending its beta phase before the end of July, indicating that it may launch by the last week of July or first week of August. If this proves true then the two Nexus phones are speculated to launch as early as August.

However, it is pointed out that the previous Google Nexus devices were unveiled in late September and began rolling out to retail stores by October. Even if Android N is completed as early as late July there is still a chance that the devices themselves may not launch until September, when Google conducts a formal presentation to unveil the devices.

Both phones are speculated to launch with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4 GB RAM, 4k resolution support, VR support, a larger battery to support longer use, a USB Type-C port and expandable memory via microSD cards.

The phones are expected to come starting at 32 GB onboard memory storage although it is likely there will be variants with more built-in storage space. They are also speculated to come with a 12MP rear-camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.

Google has yet to make an official announcement regarding their upcoming flagship phones and when they may be released.
