Google has now settled on an official name for version 6.0 of their Android operating system (OS), and it will now be known as Marshmallow.
Marshmallow is just the latest in the long line of sweetly named Android updates. Google has chosen to go this route with their Android updates up to this point, and the only other criteria they have followed is to go by alphabetical order. Earlier names of the Android OS include Lollipop and Jellybean.
Google first started talking about the Marshmallow back in May during the I/O conference. Since the update back then was still without a name, they were only referring to it as the Android M, according to CNet.
Although there is always plenty of buzz surrounding the reveal of the new Android update, there is still more for fans to look forward to since Marshmallow will be bringing in some useful new features when it is officially launched.
One of the new features coming along with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is the new Android Pay service, according to The Verge. Android Pay is looking to provide people with an alternative payment system. With Android Pay, users will be able to pay for goods and services that are offered either in apps or in stores by just using their mobile phones.
Another new feature also coming via the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is the Now on Tap feature. Now on Tap is a simple update that will enable users to gain easier access to the Google Now service on their devices by way of just holding down the home button.
As always, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will also provide the usual round of tweaks and fixes that are common in any software upgrade.
An exact release date for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be launched in the fall.
