All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately for the defending National Basketball Association (NBA) champions Golden State Warriors, such include their 24-game winning streak to begin the 2015–16 regular season.
Last Saturday, the second longest winning streak in the NBA was derailed by the Milwaukee Bucks who had a successful home stand topping the Warriors, 108–95.
The Bucks had control early in the game and despite Golden State rallying in the third quarter, the hosts had all the answers and distanced themselves in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
"We didn't have it tonight. That's why it is so hard to do what these guys have done so far. It caught up to us," Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton said, according to the Associated Press.
Fatigue may have played a factor for the Warriors who, before facing Milwaukee, were coming off a tough 124–119 double-overtime victory over the Boston Celtics last Friday.
Leading the way in their first defeat this season was reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) point guard Stephen Curry who tallied 28 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and one steal.
Forward Draymond Green had a double-double 24 points and 11 rebounds, with five assists, one steal, and one block.
In a report by the Associated Press, Curry believed that they did not play as hard as the Bucks did last Saturday.
The Warriors still rule the Western Conference standings and the NBA with their 24–1 record.
Meanwhile for the Bucks, big man Greg Monroe shone with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.
Monroe received plenty of help against the Warriors with forward Jabari Parker and guard O.J. Mayo contributing 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Point guard Michael Carter-Williams led the reserves with 17 points, three rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
The "Greek Freak" Giannis Antetokounmpo had a triple-double for the Bucks at 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists that came along with one steal and two blocks.
Despite still being in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference standings with a 10–15 record after the win, Bucks head coach Jason Kidd is pleased since it is not just the streak they ended, they also defeated the defending champions.
