"Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" aims to offer the experience of the original game from the franchise and combine it with the current-generation graphics of the present.

The original "Gears of War" quickly became a commercial and critical hit for the Xbox 360 upon its release and now, the game is set to make its debut on more advanced platforms.

According to WCCF Tech, "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" is being released partly because multinational technology company Microsoft is planning to put a greater emphasis on games it releases for the PC, though it will be exclusive to the Windows 10 operating system. With the original "Gears of War" already proving to be a hit and having amassed a cult following, it was a natural candidate for remastering and transport to the newer platforms.

The main selling point of "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" may be the greatly improved graphics, but that is not the only thing new about it.

In addition to better visuals, the game is also being outfitted with new mechanics, better audio and even additional cutscenes. New content is also coming to the game in the form of bonus features that include several additions to multiplayer mode and five new chapters being added to the single player campaign.

While the new version certainly brings significant additions to the game, it is also notable for retaining several of the elements that made the first "Gears of War" game as well-received as it was.

For instance, iDigital Times reports that the achievement list for the remastered game will be very similar to how fans remember it from before. In total, "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" will have 56 achievements. Upon completion of all 56 achievements, players can earn a Gamescore of 1,250.

"Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" will be available starting August 25.
