Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquaio rematch news: Floyd dismisses negotiations rumors

Rumors about a negotiation on the rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have been making the rounds but the latter recently slammed the rumors saying there's no truth to it.

Sports journalist Stephen A. Smith reportedly said on ESPN that there are no rematch negotiations. He said that Mayweather himself said in an Oct. 9 text message that the rumors were "false" and that he won't be returning to the ring.

The rumors started when the Filipino world champion posted a video on Facebook stating that there are negotiations on his rematch with "Pretty Boy."

"I don't know yet who's my opponent next but we're still negotiating right now about the rematch with Floyd Mayweather so hoping for that," Pacquiao claimed in his video post.

This recent video post was the second instance in a period of two months that Pacquiao claimed about the possibility of a rematch.

In a separate report from Gulf News, the pound-for-pound boxer was also asked about the Mayweather rematch during his arrival in Dubai and he responded that he doesn't know if it's likely but he welcomes the idea, also adding that he's actually open to fight with anyone.

It appears that Pacquiao won't get that rematch since Mayweather already retired from the boxing scene since September.

As for Pacquiao, he is set to get back to the ring to fight on April 9, believed to be his last. The 36-year-old boxer also said that he's considering to have the fight in Dubai.

As for his opponents, there have been no confirmatory reports on whom Pacquiao will be fighting against. However, it is likely that he could face Timothy Bradley, Jr. or Terence Crawford.

A fight between Amir Khan could also be in the cards. Fans will just have to wait sometime this month or in December for the official announcement.
