'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' release date news: First episode speculated to release in 2017

Final Fantasy VII Remake Square-Enix

The "Final Fantasy VII Remake" is currently in production and is being directed by Tetsuya Nomura, who also worked on the original game. However, no official release date for the game has yet been announced but fans speculate that the first episode is likely to launch in Spring or Summer 2017.

It has been reported that the game was not mentioned for the rest Square-Enix's financial report which means the game is only going to launch after March 2017. Given that the game is being split into multiple episodes this could indicate that the first episode is going to launch by Spring or Summer, between April and August 2017.

Movie News Guide also points out that the game is possibly going to be split into three episodes given that the original game was split between three discs. "Final Fantasy XIII," another multi-part game in the long-running franchise, was also split into three games and is said to be a major template for the "Final Fantasy VII Remake."

Fans speculate that each entry might release every six months or once every year. This means the entire game may see completion by 2018 or by 2019 if the first episode is out by 2017.

One issue, however, is the fact that the game might get delayed or that there might be a long hiatus between the release of each episode.

"Final Fantasy versus XIII" was announced back in 2006 and over the course of a decade it had been halted, continued and delayed. After many years it was taken out of the "Final Fantasy XIII" series and renamed as "Final Fantasy XV," dated to launch in September. However, a recent report reveals it has been pushed back yet again to Nov. 29.

This type of constant delay may occur with "Final Fantasy VII Remake" and a speculated spring 2017 release could be pushed to winter or even in early 2018.
