'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' release date update: First episode expected to roll out in 2017

Final Fantasy VII Remake Square-Enix

The upcoming "Final Fantasy VII Remake" is going to be split into several episodes but they won't be small episodes of just one game. Instead, each one is as big as a full-fledged AAA titled. According to a report from Movie News Guide, it is possible that the first episode will launch by E3 2017, which takes place in June.

The game was not listed in the fiscal report from Square-Enix, which means there is no chance of it launching between now and March 2017 but this could mean the first episode will launch as early as April or around June in order to take advantage of the E3 hype.

Square-Enix has not yet revealed how many episodes there will be but if the game follows the same structure of the PS One original or "Final Fantasy XIII," which it is modeling its release format from, there will likely be three entries in the game.

It is widely speculated that all three entries will release in 2017 but this is only if they are being developed simultaneously. The three games in the "Final Fantasy XIII" series were not made all at once and each one exhibited a different design, different combat system and other changes.

Because of this the three games for "Final Fantasy XIII" were released with a two-year gap between each entry. The first title launched in 2009 followed by the second entry in 2011 and the final entry, "Lightning Returns," in 2013. It is possible that the "Final Fantasy VII Remake" will follow a similar pattern.

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" will reimagine the tale of Cloud Strife, a former member of SOLDIER who joins a rebel group intending on taking down Shinra, a company that is slowly killing the planet with its excessive use of Mako energy, as well as the rogue SOLDIER known as Sephiroth.
