The first few episodes of the upcoming AMC series "Fear the Walking Dead" will give fans major anxiety issues when it premieres in the U.S. on Aug. 23.
Showrunner Dave Erickson told Variety that first season of the "The Walking Dead" spin-off will be full of suspense, as it will dwell on how the zombie apocalypse came to be. This dark tone would pervade the entire series, putting the audience in tense apprehension on what to expect next.
"There's something wonderful about seeing the landscape of East Los Angeles, yet knowing full well what's coming down the pike. Every time you look out into that world, you know that all those people are about to die."
Meanwhile, creator Robert Kirkman reveals to Nerdist that viewers will also see what the first zombies looked like in the series. He said that the protagonists, Madison and Travis, will be dealing with "a much more human walker."
"This is much earlier in the outbreak, so they're not going to be as decayed and they're going to be as monstrous, which is going to make the violence in the show and the different things that happen, that much more startling."
A teaser trailer recently released by AMC provides a glimpse of what Erickson and Kirkman were talking about. Daily Mail reports that in the 30-second clip, Los Angeles could be seen under "a shroud of darkness." The zombie apocalypse has just begun and fires were shooting up in almost all parts of the city. Helicopters flew haphazardly, trying to light the ground below. None of the leading characters were shown in the promo, but it was enough to incite fear to viewers.
During the San Diego Comic-Con, a more detailed teaser was shown to the press. The Bennett family was shown as they try to ride out the zombie outbreak. Outside their home, it was full mayhem with people trying to escape the hordes of undead.
"Fear the Walking Dead" airs Aug. 23 on AMC in the United States and September in the United Kingdom, exclusive to BT customers.
