The "Fast and Furious" franchise has taken its stars around the world. Previous films were shot in Tokyo, Dominican Republic, Dubai, and Rio de Janeiro. The eighth installment in the franchise will be set in New York City.

According to Screenrant, Vin Diesel confirmed this in an interview on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" last October by shouting, "New York, baby!"

On the show, Fallon asked the actor if three more "Fast and Furious" movies are in the works, and Diesel replied: "Yes—a trilogy."

The actor also said that the first film was based on an article in Vibe magazine about drag racers in New York, but producers decided to set the movie in Los Angeles.

For now, very little is known about the film since updates from the cast and filmmakers have been scarce.

Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges are expected to be back, but no confirmation on their involvement has been made. Jason Statham has confirmed that he will be back as Deckard Shaw, while Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role as Hobbs.

It is unclear whether Jordana Brewster will be back to reprise her role as Mia since "Furious 7" ended with Brian (Paul Walker) saying goodbye to the crew as he prepares to spend a peaceful life with a pregnant Mia and their first child.

Brewster told Huffpost Live last April that she was not sure if she'll do another film in the franchise.

"I don't know [if I'd do another film]," she said. "But it's always dependent on the fans. If they want one and there's an appetite for it."

While "Furious 7" opened with very little competition at the box office, "Fast and Furious 8" will be going up against the animated adaptation of the popular manga "Ghost in the Shell."

"Fast and Furious 8" will be released on April 14, 2017.
