
Back during Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015, Bethesda Softworks unveiled "Fallout 4" but this was exclusive to the group that attended the presentation. This trailer has now been released online to the public and it showcases many of the new mechanics that Bethesda has been talking about in recent weeks.
One of the first things players will notice in the trailer is that the Pip-Boy now functions and looks a bit different from "Fallout 3" and "Fallout: New Vegas." When accessing the Pip-Boy, players are no longer taken to a new screen as the avatar now lifts his arm, giving a better sensation of immersion.
Dogmeat, the canine companion in the game, is another big highlight in the trailer. The four-legged companion is seen helping the player with combat and survival needs, but it has yet to be seen to what extent. It does appear that the dog cannot die and this makes it a very valuable companion for tricky situations.
The gunplay is also showcased and according to a report from Forbes, it is very much more polished compared to the shooting mechanics in "Fallout 3." This time around, the shooting feels more like an FPS instead of "Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" archery painted and disguised as gun shooting.
VATS or Vault-Tech Assisted Targeting System makes a comeback and the trailer showcases how it has changed. As previously reported here in Christian Today, the VATS option no longer freezes time. Enemies are still moving but in super slow speed. This is why percentages may change while a player is targeting which body part to fire upon.
Lastly, the trailer also reveals that stepping into heavy armor such as those used by the Brotherhood of Steel is different than just changing equipment. The trailer shows the character stepping into a suit of armor and there now appears to be a whole new set of stats and mechanics just for the armor set.
