During a YouTube stream for this year's E3, Bethesda Softworks' Todd Howard stated that the developers will indeed be working on "The Elder Scrolls VI." However, as reported by Games Radar, he has given an update on this statement via Twitter, further explaining that the company is not developing the game at the moment.
Pete Hines, the company's Vice President of PR, also clarified this via Twitter when he explained that Bethesda Softworks is not actively developing "The Elder Scrolls VI" at the time being and that its release is still several years away, making many fans of the franchise speculate it might not come out until 2019 or 2020.
Hines later stated in July, "I am not giving out any information about 'TES6' until we formally reveal it."
Fans speculate that one of the main reasons the game is being delayed and not in full development is because the company is still preoccupied with "Fallout 4" and its DLC as well as the upcoming remaster of the fifth "Elder Scrolls" game, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition," which will be for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Games Radar points out that the gap between "Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" and "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" was four years while the gap from the latter to "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was five years. The gap between "Fallout 3" and "Fallout 4" was a total of seven years and it is possible that this will be the gap between "Skyrim" and "Elder Scrolls VI."
Rumors of what "The Elder Scrolls VI" might be about include the possibility of the game being set in the Black Marshes, a direct sequel to "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" or that it might cover the entire landmass of Tamriel, the franchise's main land setting. Bethesda Softworks has yet to confirm or deny any of these rumors.
