The latest installment of one of the most successful role-playing game (RPG) franchises in gaming history has recently been announced, with official word from publisher Square Enix that "Dragon Quest 11" is now being developed.
The newest entry in the franchise is officially coming to three different platforms, and all are expected to have some differences, according to The Verge.
First up is the PlayStation 4 (PS4) version of "Dragon Quest 11." The game, which is already in development, is expected to make use of the Unreal Engine to deliver a more spectacular gaming experience for players. The newest installment is expected to play a lot like "Dragon Quest 8" when it debuts on PS4.
Nintendo 3DS is another platform that will host "Dragon Quest 11." On this platform, the game will provide gamers a feel that they are playing two games in one. It will reportedly feature full 3D images on its top screen while 2D sprites will be displayed on the bottom screen during gameplay; although it is unclear how both will function.
Interestingly, "Dragon Quest 11" has also been announced for the Nintendo NX. Not much at all is currently known about the Nintendo NX, so it is also unclear how the new game will translate to the console. "Dragon Quest 11" is the first game confirmed for Nintendo's new console, according to Eurogamer. It remains to be seen if "Dragon Quest 11" will end up being the first game to actually be released for Nintendo NX.
As with most "Dragon Quest" titles, the latest installment is confirmed only for Japan at the moment, and it is uncertain if it will ever make its way to either North America or Europe.
An official release date for "Dragon Quest 11" has yet to be given, although most expect it to fall on the 30th anniversary of the franchise next year.
