"Dragon Ball" creator Akira Toriyama has a big surprise in store for "Dragon Ball Super" fans. The manga genius has announced that Trunks will be appearing in an upcoming arc for the series.

This won't be an ordinary appearance though. What fans are going to see is Trunks from the future, more specifically a horrifying, ill-fated future where Black Goku reins terror.

Trunks hasn't appeared in the small screen in a while, but Toriyama put together a new story for "Dragon Ball Super" that gives him an epic comeback. The bonus is that fans will get to see a villainous version of Goku, who uses his powers for evil.

The future where Trunks hailed from is terrorized by Black Goku, who is so powerful that even an extremely strong warrior like adult Trunks could not even beat.

It sounds like this "Dragon Ball Super" storyline presents an idea of what the world would become if Goku hadn't used his abilities the same way the Goku fans know and love now chose to.

"The future was supposed to be at peace, so what in the world could have happened?" Toriyama teased in his official announcement (translation via Otaku Kart) of adult Trunks' "Dragon Ball Super" debut.

"It's the start of a battle that surpasses time and space, and drag in the god of destruction, Kaioshin, even the Omni-King. Many mysteries will be revealed!" he continued.

Kaioshin, also known as the Supreme Kai, is the Mohawk-rocking god king who was in the Universe 6 vs. Universe 7 tournament. Omni-King is the powerful little fellow who went to the Nameless Planet to express his amusement of the event in the recent "Dragon Ball Super" episodes.

Future Trunks also got a slightly new look. Toriyama provided an artwork (view above) showing off the character. The question now is when he appears in "Dragon Ball Super."

At this time, the anime series is cooling off from the Champa arc, which just ended two episodes ago. "Dragon Ball Super" episode 44 will air this Sunday, May 22.

This episode is titled "The Seal of Planet Potaufeu. Secret of the Unleashed Superhuman Water!" This installment sees Goten and Trunks get trapped in Monaka's luggage carrier.

Not knowing the two kids are inside, Monaka, who was revealed to be a delivery man and not a fighter, drove off to Planet Potaufeu, home to the Superhuman Water. Vegeta rushes to the place after learning Goten and Trunks are in danger.
