Bungie, known for creating the popular science-fiction FPS series "Halo" and now their brand new IP "Destiny," will be releasing the latter's final DLC "Rise of Iron" this September. According to Game Rant, the company will then be focusing entirely on "Destiny 2" as a large bulk of the developers have already begun the preliminary work.
The news broke out via Twitter when Kotaku's editor Jason Schreier posted, "Activision earnings call just said the bulk of Bungie is on 'Destiny 2,' which I think is the first time they've officially called it that?"
Game Rant points out that there is no guarantee that the game is going to be called "Destiny 2" given that the developers have yet to make an official announcement. However, the news does indicate that the game is coming and that Bungie is already shifting a large portion of its workforce to get the title done in time.
Because of the revelation it is further hinted that "Destiny 2" will indeed launch by September 2017. This will coincide with the anniversary of the series; "Destiny" initially launched on Sept. 9 2014 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4.
Despite no official announcements coming directly from Bungie or the series' publisher Activision, there have been numerous rumors and hearsay such as Luke Smith, director of "The Taken King" DLC, now taking over the entire franchise. It is known that Smith has stepped in for the first "Destiny" but it is undetermined what his role for "Destiny 2" will be at this time being.
Game Rant also reveals that the sequel might not even be called "Destiny 2" and that one of the most popular theories is that it will be titled "Beyond Destiny," although this means the game could be a true sequel and not a reboot of the franchise.
Bungie has yet to announce the official title and release date for "Destiny 2."
