"Deadpool 2" appeared to be dead in the water after director Tim Miller dropped out of the project due to creative differences. After weeks of waiting, 20th Century Fox has finally found the right man to steer the ship.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "John Wick" co-director David Leitch has been hired to helm the sequel, so get ready to see some superb action scenes. Leitch's name has come up the past few weeks as the frontrunner for the director's chair. Drew Goddard, Magnus Martens and Rupert Sanders were reportedly in the running, but Leitch was offered the job after meeting with Ryan Reynolds in New York.
Leitch's directing style is an excellent addition to the project. He has already worked with Fox and Reynolds as a stunt coordinator on "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Well, the version of Deadpool in that movie wasn't exactly well-received.
However, it looks like he's only going to be helming "Deadpool 2." The Hollywood Reporter said the studio will look for another director to work on "Deadpool 3."
Now that there's a director on board, it's time to get the rest of the casting underway. The roles of Cable and Domino have yet to be cast. Previous reports revealed that 10 actresses are on the shortlist for the role of Domino. They will also need to find another composer now that Tom Holkenborg, better known as Junkie XL, has left the project.
Fortunately, most of the team who worked on the first movie is back for the sequel. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script, and Reynolds will once again wear the hood and leather suit in his third outing as Deadpool. He didn't exactly wear his iconic red and black suit in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," but that was still Deadpool even when his best asset (mouth) was literally sewn shut.
"Deadpool 2" is supposed to premiere on Jan. 12, 2018.
