Dallas Cowboys NFL 2015 roster news: David Irving signed off Chiefs' practice squad

The Dallas Cowboys addressed a few issues with their roster last Tuesday by signing rookie David Irving from the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad.

Irving, who can play both the defensive tackle and defensive end position, was signed to fill a vacant roster spot in the Cowboys' 53-man roster and also to address injuries to their lineup.

According to the Cowboys' website, the signing of Irving is "logical" because when the team released defensive tackle Davon Coleman last Monday, there were only seven defensive linemen in the roster with six of them being healthy.

The thin defensive lineup has been a problem for the Cowboys who are missing key defensive ends Greg Hardy, Randy Gregory, and Jeremy Mincey.

Hardy is serving a four-game suspension for violating the National Football League's (NFL) personal conduct policy, while Gregory is out with a high ankle sprain.

Meanwhile, Mincey did not play in their Week 3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons due to a concussion suffered a week before but said he is looking to return against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4.

Also, the team's website reported that defensive tackle Terrell McClain was placed on the injured reserve last week due to a severe toe sprain sustained in their Week 2 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The recently signed Irving played college football for Iowa State but was dismissed in 2014 due to legal issues he faced off the field, ESPN reported.

Despite all the issues, the 22-year-old impressed the Cowboys in his preseason stint with the Chiefs.

According to ESPN, Irving had 44 tackles, three sacks, and had an interception return for a touchdown in 32 games for Iowa State.

The Cowboys will try to bounce back following their first loss this 2015 to the undefeated Atlanta Falcons.

Dallas will be heading to Mercedes-Benz Superdome to take on the winless Saints this Sunday for Week 4 action.
