Defensive end Jeremy Mincey's approach in his search for an extension deal might be hurting him in the end as the Dallas Cowboys are willing to fine him if he does not show up in training camp.
Mincey was signed as a free agent to a two-year, $3 million contract by the Cowboys last year to improve their defense.
He was a huge addition to Dallas playing in 16 regular season games last season and led the team having six sacks.
Mincey also was with the Cowboys in two playoff games during the 2014 season and tallied an additional two sacks.
The 31-year-old player is set to earn $1.5 million for the upcoming 2015 season and participated in all of the Cowboys' offseason workouts in his hopes of landing a new deal.
Mincey has been negotiating with Dallas since February for a new pact but as of present, there is still no agreement reached.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones is disappointed with the situation, saying that they expected all under-contract players to be present at the camp.
"Jeremy obviously did a great job for us last year, he was a big part of the success on the defensive part of the football and we have nothing but respect for him, but he is under contract, I think he signed that contract last year, his representative was there, he was all for it and he signed it," Jones stated in a report by NFL.com.
Jones added that Mincey's current deal is not a long-term contract but it is effective until the end of the year; so they are expecting him to be reporting in camp and if he does not, then he will be fined.
"It is disappointing, we expect him to be here and we want him to be here," he also said.
Mincey is subject to a $30,000 fine for each day that he skips training camp.
