The Dallas Cowboys had a masterful comeback performance in their season opener against the New York Giants but they lost wide receiver Dez Bryant, who suffered a foot injury during Sunday's game.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Bryant suffered a broken bone in his foot that would require him to undergo surgery, forcing the All-Pro wide receiver to miss four to six weeks of action, according to reports. Head coach Jason Garrett confirmed the news as well.
The surgery, which took place last Monday, went well as shared by Bryant himself via Twitter.
Bryant sustained the injury in the third quarter, according to ESPN, and was limping as he headed to the locker room.
But that was not the only time Bryant went to the locker room during the game against the Giants. NFL.com reported that in the first half, he left due to dehydration.
Bryant went on to miss the remainder of the game but a video of him limping out of the locker room to congratulate his teammates following the game became viral.
Before leaving Sunday's season opener, the 26-year-old wide receiver had five receptions for 48 yards.
Cowboys franchise quarterback Tony Romo, who had 36 completions for 356 yards and three touchdowns last Sunday, said it is a tough loss adding that Bryant cannot be replaced.
Filling in the void is a tall task for the remaining Cowboys wide receivers since Bryant has produced solid numbers in the past seasons.
In the 2014 season, the two-time Pro Bowler had 88 receptions for 1,320 yards and a career-high 16 touchdowns.
Garrett said Bryant is one of their best players but sometimes those guys will not be available so it will be time for the next man to play and do the job.
The Cowboys will look for another win when they continue their 2015 season on the road for Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
