'Cyberpunk 2077' release date: Title to be bigger than 'The Witcher 3'

"Cyberpunk 2077' is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before.

That was the bold proclamation visual effects artist Jose Teixeira shared in an interview with MCV regarding the developer's next project.

Teixeira added an extra layer of emphasis to his proclamation by saying "Cyberpunk 2077," will be "far, far bigger."

As people might remember, "The Witcher 3" drew heaps of critical praise after its debut earlier this year. The game continues to provide players with hours upon hours of content, and on top of all that, it also happens to feature one of the biggest maps ever seen in any game.

Teixeira said the studio is using the experience they gained from making "The Witcher 3" and applying it into the creative process behind "Cyberpunk 2077."

Now, the game's developer is aiming to top themselves with their next release.

While "The Witcher 3" featured a medieval setting filled with mythical creatures, "Cyberpunk 2077," is expected to provide a different environment. For their next game, CD Projekt Red is looking to present something new and with a nod towards the sci-fi genre.

"Cyberpunk 2077" was originally revealed back in 2012, although it did not have an official name back then.

The game will reportedly be based on the Cyberpunk pen-and-paper role-playing game (RPG) system engineered by Mike Pondsmith, according to Gamespot.

Unfortunately, there's not much else in the way of specific details that have been released regarding "Cyberpunk 2077."

Those waiting to hear further development regarding the game will also have to sit on their hands for a while as CD Projekt Red has already indicated that they will not be talking about "Cyberpunk 2077" until 2017 at the earliest. That figures to be an agonizing wait for some fans, but one that could be worth it judging by "The Witcher 3."

For now, CD Projekt Red is still focused on "The Witcher 3."
