In the next episode of "Criminal Minds," the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) led by Agent David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) investigates a string of backyard pool murders in California.

The synopsis and promotional photos for the upcoming installment, which is titled "Submerged," were recently released, and they show the team in their private jet on their way to the site of the serial murders in California. They eventually get to the crime scene of the latest homicide in the backyard pool of a house.

Rossi looks around for important clues around the pool. Matt Simmons (Daniel Henney) and Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) check out the dead body and look for anything that can lead to the direction of the killer. The investigators need to form a preliminary profile of the killer so that the local policemen can search for that type of person that fits the description.

Rossi, Lewis, and the rest of the team then go to the local sheriff named Clifford (Lou Diamond Phillips) to get his input regarding the homicides. He briefs them on his investigation and the places where the previous murders took place. It is likely that the serial killer had a traumatic experience regarding house pools, which could serve as the motive. It remains to be seen if Rossi and the agents will be able to capture the pool murderer before he commits another one.

In the last episode, Lewis and the team were able to pin a murder on a conspiracy theorist named Melissa Miller (Zelda Williams). They discovered that she told someone in her group to keep the bullet that killed her former conspiracy colleague. She was arrested in the interrogation room and brought to justice.

"Criminal Minds" season 13 episode 10 will hit the airwaves on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 10 p.m. EST on CBS
