Argentina made it to the championship match in two out of the previous three Copa America (2004, 2007) but succumbed to Brazil.
Meanwhile in the 2011 Copa America, Paraguay had the chance to finally win the title again but fell short against Uruguay in the final game.
In their first meeting during the group stage round, Argentina had control early as Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero opened the scoring in the 29th minute.
Barcelona's Lionel Messi buried Paraguay 2-0 after a successful penalty shot in the 36th minute.
In the 60th minute, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Nelson Valdez found the net to put Paraguay on the board and narrow the gap to just one goal.
Paraguay was successful in their last ditch effort to avoid defeat as Palmeiras striker Lucas Barrios scored the equalizer in the 91st minute.
In a report by Goal.com, Valdez said they do not want to do the same thing they did in their first meeting against Argentina in which they trailed before making a run to tie it.
"We don't want to make the same mistake, go back and forth without touching the ball," Valdez said according to Goal.com.
"We are getting people to respect us again. We are among the top four in South America and we want more," he added.
Argentina entered the semi-finals after ousting Columbia on penalties following a 0-0 draw in regulation while Paraguay stunned Brazil also on penalties.
