An All-Star point guard may return this month as the Cleveland Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving is reportedly ready to return to action after months of not playing since last season's Finals due to a fractured knee cap.
In a report by Dave McMenamin of ESPN, a source said Irving is ready to play but Cavaliers head coach David Blatt stated following their practice last Sunday that their star playmaker will not see action on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics.
Earlier reports said Irving and guard Iman Shumpert, who had a wrist injury before training camp last September, are already practicing fully with the team and are in game shape.
Shumpert already played his first game of the season last Friday in an 111–76 win over the Orlando Magic.
But it is likely that Irving will not be back on the hardcourt immediately as the Cavaliers are practicing extreme cautiousness with him, according to McMenamin's report.
However, it seems like Irving is not in favor of what the Cavaliers are trying to do, with McMenamin citing a report from Cleveland.com.
According to the report, a source said the point guard is already asking the coaching staff to play him to the point where he is already "pissed off."
Despite the Cavaliers' plan of making sure Irving is a hundred percent healthy before coming back, Chris Hayne of Cleveland.com suggested that he may debut this season when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 20.
If Irving returns against the 76ers, it means he will be starting when Cleveland takes on the defending champions Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day.
The return of the 23-year-old point guard will be huge for Cleveland as he is one of their best players, especially on offense with his scoring and ball handling.
Last season, Irving averaged a career-best 21.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.5 steals in 36.4 minutes of action per contest.
