Game developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games have released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming "Civilization VI," the first major new entry in the franchise since the fifth game launched back in 2010. The trailer, showcasing beautiful art and a narration by Sean Bean, does not reveal any gameplay footage but it does reveal that the game's official release date.
According to the official teaser trailer, "Civilization VI" will launch for the PC on Oct. 21. However, fans are awary that the developers may need to push this release date back if they ever encounter a few issues with development or if additional content is to be worked into the game.
In a report from The Verge, lead producer Dennis Shirk confirmed that the game would be a major improvement from "Civilization V" while still retaining many of the elements that worked.
"Everything that 'Civilization' players have loved in 'Civilization V,' we're bringing forward, in addition to putting on the new gameplay from 'Civilization VI,'" explained Shirk. "It'll be like a warm blanket."
Of the changes that the game will implement, Shirk confirmed that cities will no longer consume just one tile on the map and that proper placement of a city on the map will play a big part in the game. An example given is that a city district built close to the water will give bonuses on researching water-based technology such as sailing.
Historical figures will also see a major change as they are being tweaked to act more like they did in the real world than just being difficult AI that the player has to deal with. Each AI leader has their own desires, political goals and agenda. According to Shirk, this will open up the game for more dynamic forms of diplomacy and warfare.
"Civilization VI" will be released on Oct. 21.
