There will be no action for Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose, but reports say he is likely rejoining the team to watch practice this Wednesday, a week after his surgery for an orbital fracture.
Rose suffered the injury after getting elbowed in the face during their first practice last Tuesday and the next day underwent surgery, which determined the two-week timetable before he can participate in any basketball activity.
Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg said Rose's follow-up examination went well, with the Chicago Tribune reporting that he will be given clearance to watch practice this Wednesday.
"Follow-up went very well. They've advised him to continue to let that sight heal, and they think the best way to do that is for him to stay at home at this time. We plan on him being back Wednesday morning," Hoiberg said following their practice last Saturday.
Despite the 27-year-old point guard's expected return to the team this week, the initial timetable (two weeks) before he can do basketball activities still remains the same.
ESPN and the Chicago Tribune reported that Hoiberg, with a number of coaches, visited Rose in his home last Saturday.
Hoiberg said before the visit, according to ESPN, "We're going to actually get over there and watch some film with him today because we've added new sets, new things. So we'll get him caught up by a couple coaches going over and seeing him at his house."
The Bulls head coach is optimistic that Rose will return in time for their season opener hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 27.
Rose's orbital fracture was a scare for Chicago since he has had a bad history when it comes to injuries.
The three-time All-Star played in 51 regular season games last season which was his most since the 2010–11 season and helped the Bulls reach the playoffs, participating in 12 games before getting eliminated.
