Veteran cornerback Tim Jennings will no longer be playing for the Windy City as the Chicago Bears released him last Sunday after five seasons.
Jennings went through knee surgery early in the offseason which limited his participation in the team's earlier workouts and despite being healthy, he started to lose significance as the offseason progressed.
In their most recent preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Jennings saw action in the second quarter but was already the sixth cornerback deployed by head coach John Fox.
The 31-year-old football player told the Chicago Tribune that he already had a hint of what will happen before getting released.
"Once the (new) regime came in and everybody was here, I kind of knew and the writing was on the wall. But they also gave me a heads-up and told me I would be out there competing for a job," Jennings told Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
Despite the release, Jennings is not disappointed with the Bears' decision and told Josina Anderson of ESPN that Chicago welcomed him and gave him an opportunity.
He added that he played his best years in his stint with the Bears but is now excited to see what is next.
In five seasons with the Bears, Jennings made it to the Pro Bowl twice (2012, 2013) and in the 2012 season led the National Football League (NFL) with nine interceptions.
According to the report by the Chicago Tribune, Jennings said Fox told him the reason for his release is the team's aim to be younger.
Jennings is still a quality cornerback and NFL.com reported that he was ranked as the 25th best cornerback in 2014 by Pro Football Focus so finding a new team will likely not be that hard for him.
Meanwhile, the Bears will be hosting the Cleveland Browns this Thursday for their final preseason game in 2015.
