There are at least 14 more episodes left to "Castle" season 8 but there is already buzz surrounding episode 22, the season's final episode. Will it also serve as the series finale? Rumours say yes.

International Busines Times says that episode 22 of "Castle" season 8 will feel a whole lot like a series finale as well. This was supported by a quote from the show's executive producer Alexi Hawley, who told TVLine that the people behind the show are already looking at wrapping up Rick Castle's (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett's (Stana Katic) story when the current season ends.

"The reality is that [the network execs] won't make that decision until very late. So our plan is just to tell a satisfying story and try to wrap up the season in an exciting way," Hawley says.

But some fans are not too worried about the fate of the ABC show, even with the statement from the showrunner. The crime drama television series has, after all, pulled the same trick in season 7. With the network still undecided about its renewal during filming, the showrunners and writers also created a season 7 finale that felt like a series finale.

But whether or not "Castle" gets another season, the remaining episodes for season 8 is looking like something all fans should never miss. Previous reports say that the show is looking at revealing a connection between Rick's memory loss and his wife Kate.

Hawley revealed a few weeks back that the reason they previously offered for Rick's absence and memory loss is not the real reason. He adds that the reason will eventually be unfolded when season 8 comes back after the midseason break this February. He did admit, however, they have not fully decided on what that reason is.

"Castle" season 8 returns to ABC on Feb. 1 with 14 new episodes airing on the network every Monday night.
