'Castle' season 8 plot spoilers: Stana Katic returns

ABC president Paul Lee confirmed that "Castle" will return for its eighth season, especially now that lead actress Stana Katic finally signed up to reprise her role as Kate Beckett in the popular police procedural series. Entertainment Weekly posted Lee's announcement after he revealed to reporters that the crime drama will have a season 8 despite the major production changes in the show.

Fans were worried about the possible cancellation of the show when Katic did not immediately sign up to reprise her role as the feisty NYPD homicide detective even though actor Nathan Fillion already announced that he is willing to work again as Richard Castle.

But when Katic finally announced that she already agreed to return to the show's set, fans were able take a breathe a sigh of relief.

"I'm so pleased to announce that, after talking with our new show runners, Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley (both of whom I've had the pleasure of working with on the show before) I'm excited about the future plans for Beckett and delighted to be returning for a Season 8 of Castle," the actress tweeted.

Unlike Katic, executive producers Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller already made the announcement that they will not be working on "Castle's" next run. Earlier, series showrunner David Amann confirmed that he will be parting ways with "Castle" after season 7. He will be replaced by Winter and Hawley when the series starts filming again.

In the meantime, viewers will see Katic's character facing a serious crossroad. In the episode titled "Hollander's Woods," the veteran NYPD police officer will be offered the chance to run for the New York State Senate, and Castle will support her if she chooses to take that offer.

But by the end of the episode, Beckett's decision will still be left hanging. Could this be the core plot in "Castle" season 8?
