Season 8 of "Castle" will see Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) taking on her new job as captain of the 12th Precinct. And while the promotion means that she'll get to make major decisions for the precinct, she'll still be the same Beckett that fans know and love.

Executive producer Terence Winter told Entertainment Weekly that Beckett won't be a traditional captain.

"She's boots on the ground. She's still Beckett. She's going to be handling cases and she's going to be involved in the interrogation," Winter told the website.

Now that Kate is the new captain, this will have an effect on Castle as well. As she will now be busy with her new job, Castle will be working more with an investigator named Hayley Shipton (Toks Olagundoye). Executive producer Alexi Hawley told EW that Hayley will be doing things in a non-traditional way.

"She doesn't do things [the way the police would], so it's that fun dynamic of we break in rather than get a warrant," said Hawley.

Although Castle will be working with another woman, Hawley told TVGuide that Hayley will never get in the way of his marriage with Beckett.

"That was never our intention," Hawley said about the new character. "It's not going to happen."

It was also reported that Alexis, Castle's daughter, will be joining her father's PI Firm. And she will be more than up to the task as it will be revealed in the premiere that she has solved more cases than her dad.

Meanwhile, Beckett's success will also affect Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) as Winter told TVGuide that the two will be expecting another baby.

"Ultimately, that's going to make Ryan even more paranoid and more excited about trying to make more money," he said, adding that Beckett's promotion will make the boys realize that it's time to reevaluate and start looking at their futures, which is going to create conflict between them.

Season 8 of "Castle" premieres on Monday, Sept. 21, at 10/9c on ABC.
