There's a bit of bad news for hardcore fans of "Carmageddon" who are patiently waiting for next week's launch of "Carmageddon: Reincarnation" because the race and wreck title will be released next month instead.

Developer Stainless Games announced to the Steam community that the next installment to the "Carmageddon" franchise will be launched on May 21 instead of the original April 23 schedule. The company said that the delay is needed to polish the game even further.

Stainless Games explained via a Steam Community post, "We've been making great strides on all fronts, and were within a metric smidge of releasing next week, but in our final 'Go/No Go' meeting we all agreed that the extra time was needed. The additional month gives us time to polish various areas of the game even further."

The Steam representative added, "I know that many of you have expressed the opinion that you'd rather we brought you a better game than release too soon. And we agree!"

Aside from the delay, Stainless Games has already issued a statement last month, saying that the development version of the title would be pulled out from Steam Early Access prior to the release of the game's full version. However, since the official launch of "Carmageddon: Reincarnation" has been delayed, it could still be played by those wishing to take an early glimpse of the game. The developer also promised further updates for the Early Access version.

"Carmageddon: Reincarnation" is the next installment in the "Carmageddon" franchise, developed via a Kickstarter campaign in 2012. It received over $600,000 in crowdsource funding, with an original projected release in 2013. However, Stainless Games continued to develop the title and raised more funds to refine and tweak the game.

"Carmageddon: Reincarnation" will be launched on May 21 for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
