During this year's San Diego Comic Con, both Marvel and DC made big announcements regarding their upcoming comic book movies. However, one of the biggest reveals came from Marvel Studios when they announced that "Room" star Brie Larson had been offiically cast as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

Larson herself re-announced the casting news via her Twitter account, in which she stated she was now stepping into the role of Captain Marvel and her photo revealed her wearing a Marvel Studios cap.

Speaking to Cinema Blend right after the panel ended, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige explained why Larson was chosen for the role. Fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Chris Evans, who plays Captain Steve Rogers aka Captain America, had been quite vocal and supportive about Larson getting the role.

"Listen, we set the bar very high with the first casting decision we ever made with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Since then, every single choice we've made, we have asked, 'Could it meet that bar?' Because that is what people expect of us, and that is what... it's a very high bar," he explained.

Feige then explained that Larson had all the attributes and now the prestige of an Academy Award for her role in "Room" that ensured she could meet the bar set by the studios. After all, one of the key reasons why the MCU films have been so successful thus far is because of their good choice of actors and actresses.

Brie Larson is most notably famous for her roles in "Scott Pilgrim vs the World," "Room," "21 Jump Street" and the upcoming "Kong: Skull Island."

"Captain Marvel" currently has no official director attached to the project but it is slated to be released by March 8, 2019. The titular character is speculated to have a big role in the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War."
