The Buffalo Bills will likely be missing the services of starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor who reportedly has a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. Because of this, veteran passer Josh Johnson was signed and kicker Billy Cundiff was released.

Bills head coach Rex Ryan told The Buffalo News that Taylor played hurt in their most recent win last Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

"I can tell you this: He is beat up right now. He's sore. You ought to see him — he is sore. We knew he would be. Guys, he hasn't been 100 percent all season," Ryan said about Taylor Monday, according to The Buffalo News.

Ryan also shared that they have not seen Taylor at a hundred percent yet since he has been hurt even in training camp dealing with an ankle injury.

In five games played this season for the Bills who are at 3–2, Taylor has 96 completions for 1,097 yards and nine touchdowns.

Since the 26-year-old is expected to be out in their Week 6 game against the undefeated Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday, backup EJ Manuel who played two games this season will likely be taking the starting job.

With Manuel being the most realistic option to start, the newly signed Johnson will be the number two quarterback behind him if ever Taylor misses action.

According to ESPN, Johnson was released by the Indianapolis Colts last Monday and was a "fallback option" for the team if quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Matt Hasselbeck were unable to play.

Johnson was a fifth-round pick (160th overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2008 National Football League (NFL) Draft.

The Bills are aiming to make it to the playoffs this year since they have missed it for the past 15 seasons.

Following their game against the Bengals, the Bills will next take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7 before having their bye week in Week 8.
