The Buffalo Bills rewarded their nickel cornerback Nickell Robey an extension deal although no amount was disclosed, NFL Media's Rand Getlin reported that a source said the deal is for two years.

Robey is an undrafted rookie and became the Bills nickel cornerback since he signed with the team in 2013.

According to ESPN, the 23-year-old was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract which will earn him a minimum salary of $585,000 and would make him a restricetd free agent in next year's offseason if he was not signed to a new deal.

Robey is one of the smallest cornerbacks in the league at just 5-foot-8 but he excelled in the position for the Bills and has played in 32 regular season games including eight starts in his two seasons with the team.

Playing for the Bills in the 2013 and 2014 season Robey has tallied 84 tackles, 18 passes defensed, four sacks and one interception.

"Nickell Robey has been a productive and dependable cornerback for our team since we signed him in 2013. I commend our scouting staff for identifying and signing a player of Nickell's caliber in the undrafted college free agent period. Since entering the NFL, Nickell has worked hard and taken advantage of his opportunities to make plays when called upon," Bills general manager Doug Whaley said in a statement.

Whaley believes that under head coach Rex Ryan and his coaching staff, Robey will continue to improve and become one of their most important defensive contributors.

He added that their philosophy is rewarding their players and that is what they did with Robey.

Meanwhile in a statement on the team's website, Robey said he feels great and blessed to be signed by the Bills to a new contract.

He also said that he kept his faith with the Bills and they believed in him seeing his talent.

Robey added, "We got on common ground and now I'm here for another few years and now I can just play football."
