"Better Call Saul" season 3 is moving forward, and as previously reported, it may be bringing back the character of Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). However, despite being a prequel to the highly successful series "Breaking Bad," there are now speculations that the third season may deviate from the established storyline.
Series creator Peter Gould explained during the recent Vulture Festival (via Christian Times) that "Better Call Saul" will stick to the outline of the story that was presented in "Breaking Bad" but that doesn't mean they won't deviate a little to show even more details of what happened.
"I don't think anything is predetermined," Gould explained. "Even with 'Breaking Bad' we had a story that was set up from the beginning. Mr. Chips turns into Scarface. This show we have Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman, which in some ways seems not as extreme of a journey, a different kind of journey."
This means that while the Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) future has been shown in "Breaking Bad," the prequel series can be a bit more liberal in depicting how he got to that point.
A report from the Master Herald indicates that the deviations from the story might take place during flashbacks or scenes taking place after the finale of "Breaking Bad." According to the report, season 3 may go back and forth between the past and present, focusing on the past from "Better Call Saul" and McGill's fate after "Breaking Bad."
This would continue the style featured in the very first episode of "Better Call Saul," which opened with a scene of Jimmy McGill hiding from his enemies following the death of Walter White (Bryan Cranston). The show then cut to several years in the past to depict how Jimmy McGill became Saul Goodman. This switching between timelines may continue in season 3.
"Better Call Saul" season 3 is expected to premiere in early 2017.
