"Avatar 2," which was previously rumored to have a December 2018 release date, will not be able to hit theaters by then.

James Cameron, the writer and director of "Avatar," said in an interview with The Star, "What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we're not making "Avatar" 2. We're making "Avatar" 2, 3, 4 and 5. It's an epic undertaking."

He explained that the first film took them four and a half years to produce. As such, it is not unreasonable to expect four films to be produced within that fist time frame.

He also teased that their props and sets are just about ready for shooting. He said, "We're pretty well designed on all our creatures and sets. It's pretty exciting stuff. I wish I could share with the world. But we have to preserve a certain amount of showmanship and we're going to draw the curtain when the time is right." He added that the films will allow viewers to "immerse" in the world, given the richness of the details that they will be showing.

In a previous interview with Indie Wire, Cameron said that he will be pushing for technological innovations for the films, including the possibility of showing it in 3D without viewers having to wear the glasses. Cameron's other films have been noted for their use of technology and powerful imagery, such as "Aliens" and the first two "Terminator" installments.

We Got This Covered previously reported that Sigourney Weaver revealed that they will start shooting by fall. However, as early as now, they have begun training, although she did not specify what sort of training she and the other cast members will be going through. Cheat Sheet noted that her return in the film is an interesting twist, considering that her character died in the first film. Also returning despite his character's demise in "Avatar" is Stephen Lang.
