The Atlanta Braves placed first baseman Freddie Freeman and relief pitcher Jason Frasor on the 15-day disabled list (DL) because of their respective injuries.
Freeman is again back on the list after already missing 30 games earlier this season in his first stint on the DL with a sprained right wrist. This time, he will be sidelined after sustaining a right oblique strain in their game against the San Francisco Giants Monday.
The 25-year-old baseman's injury is not something new as he suffered the same at the start of the 2013 season, forcing him to sit out 13 games, according to MLB.com.
Meanwhile, ESPN reported that according to Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, Freeman headed back to Orlando to rehab the injury and will return as soon as possible. Gonzalez remains optimistic about Freeman's situation.
"He's a competitor, a big-time competitor. It's an injury, if treated right, if it's not a serious one, you can get him back in two weeks or three weeks," he said, according to MLB.com.
He believes that Freeman wants to end the season healthy; and that the Braves are likewise hoping that he would stay with the club for many more years. He added that they want to win more games, and Freeman is an important piece of the puzzle.
In 76 games played this season, Freeman is hitting .284 with 14 home runs and 45 runs batted in (RBIs).
Along with Freeman, Frasor, who was recently signed by the Braves, was sent to the DL because of a strained right shoulder.
Frasor said he had issues with his elbow before with him, going through a number of surgeries already; but he never faced a shoulder injury.
In a report by MLB.com, the 37-year-old relief pitcher said he will be getting a cortisone shot and will see how he can make it through the next two months because he wants to end the year pitching for Atlanta.
The Braves recalled first baseman Joey Terdoslavich and rookie pitcher Ryan Kelly from Triple-A Gwinnett with Freeman and Frasor spending time on the DL.
