Apple Watch vs. Android Wear specs: design, display, interface

With the release of Apple's much-hyped Apple Watch, chances are many smartwatch users would be wearing it by the end of the year. However, for most of the tech community, the question that still needs to be answered would be, "How would the Apple Watch fare against Android Wear?"

Design

In terms of variety, Android Wear would take the cake. Available in eight different designs so far, the Android-based wearable's design range from the circular, more traditional watch faces like those on the LG G Watch R, the Moto 360, and LG Urbane. There are also square-shaped Android smartwatches like the Samsung Gear Live, the LG G Watch, and Sony's Smartwatch 3.

The Apple Watch, on the other hand, is only available as a square-shaped device with rounded-off corners. However, Apple offers variety in the design's build, as the Apple Watch may come in aluminum, stainless steel, or the premium, high-end Watch Edition made with 18-karat gold.

Display

Being one of the pioneers in the smartwatch industry, the Android Wear's color displays brought variation that ranges from the higher 320 x 320 AMOLED screen from Samsung to the 240 ppi density of the Moto 360.

However, Apple has an edge in terms of display tech. The Apple Watch's Force Touch, the first in the smartwatch industry, is capable of multitouch UI, which senses differences in tap pressure and opens new options depending on how hard or soft the touch of the user is.

Interface

Even without the Force Touch tech, Android Wear has somehow gotten back into the game by releasing its biggest update so far. The new interface for Android Wear now includes gestures, which displays notifications and messages at the flick of the wrist.

The Apple Watch, on the other hand, fully utilizes touchscreen technology, and users have observed that the wearable is much like a miniature iPhone in terms of controls.
