Android Marshmallow 6.0 update releases to HTC One M8 GPE

 HTC

One of the very first tech manufacturers that received the new Android 6.0 platform is HTC. Its recently released One A9 flagship came with Android Marshmallow right out of the box, and the Taiwan-based company vowed that other devices in its lineups will soon be updated to the newest platform.

HTC kept its promise, as reports suggest that it has already started rolling out Android Marshmallow to different HTC flagships, starting with the Google Play Edition of One M8.

According to a tweet by Mo Versi, HTC's vice president of product management, the One M8 GPE has been officially updated with the Android 6.0 version. The OTA notifications are rolling out, and Versi also thanked fans who patiently waited for the update. Versi said, "HTC One M8 GPE owners, thank you very much for your patience. Update for Marshmallow is live now. Enjoy!"

It is still a surprise for many that HTC decided to update the One M8 GPE, according to VCPost, as this version is no longer supported by HTC. In addition, it doesn't use the UI version the HTC integrated to its flagships but rather run on stock Android.

However, when HTC came out with a list of flagships that will make the jump to the newest platform, the Google Play Edition of the One M8 was included. Although there were no listed release dates for the update, some fans expected the GPE One M8 to be the first one to be updated, since it is a Google edition that is much closer to the stock ROM produced by Android maker. In addition, among the HTC smartphones, the One M8 GPE was also the first one to receive the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update when it rolled out.

The IB Times noted that since HTC decided to update the Google Play Edition of the One M8, it is more than likely that the global One M8 version will also be updated to Marshmallow soon, as well as other flagships in the lineup.
