Tech fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the latest Android operating system (OS) update and also curious to see as to which phones will actually be receiving it.

As of now, there's a chance that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will arrive at different times for manufacturers and their phones.

For Sony's Xperia Z3 line, the length of the wait is a bit unclear, but it looks as though there will indeed be a payoff.

Numerous Sony brand smartphones and tablets have already been able to try out the technical preview of the upcoming Android update. Among those that have been able to run the technical preview of the OS are the phones from the Xperia Z3 line.

The developer preview of the latest Android OS was actually rolled out a while ago back in June, according to the International Business Times. At this point, however, there's no word on how successful or problematic the trial runs may have been.

It's also believed that the Sony smartphones from the Xperia Z3 line will be among the first to receive the new update.

Unfortunately, there's no official word as of now for when the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will even be rolling out.

All that appears to be official as of now is that the new update is expected to be released during the fall, and Google has yet to elaborate on that broad timeline, according to Latin Post.

It's also believed that the latest update will be coming first to Google's new Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 smartphones; hence, Xperia Z3 owners can likely expect it to arrive for their units some time after that.

Aside from the Xperia Z3 line, other devices from Sony expected to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update early on include the Z1 and Z2 lines; the T2 and T2 Ultra phones; the Xperia M2; and also the E3.
