There are signs that the next Android update rollout would be happening soon, with the Nexus 7 and 9 likely to be the first Google devices to receive the update.

The 5.1.1 version of Lollipop was first seen a week ago on the Android page that measures audio latency. In the page that was screen captured by Android Police, there were two new builds for the Nexus 7 and Nexus 9, the LMY47W and LMY47S. Both builds were listed as carrying the 5.1.1 version of Android. However, the builds have already been taken off the latency page.

The Nexus 7 has already gotten the 5.1 Lollipop update. The Nexus 9 device, on the other hand, is still being run on the very first Android Lollipop 5.0 version.

Meanwhile, it seems that the 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Android will first be rolled out for the Nexus Player. In the developer page for the device, there is already a 5.1.1 download link listed for the factory images for a manual update. However, this will involve flashing the device, as there are still no news on when the set top box will receive the update over the air.

The 5.1.1 version of Lollipop is expected to patch up the issue regarding memory leaks that have remained persistent despite the previous updates. Aside from memory concerns, most who have updated to 5.1, especially Nexus owners, complain of random restarts and sometimes, even brick problems. The 5.1 Lollipop also reportedly shortened the battery life of the Nexus 7 2012 device and, for the Nexus 6, there have been reports of phone crashes and connectivity issues.
