'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 3 spoilers: Agent May to leave group in new season?

Agent May doubts the organization she is working for in the upcoming episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Marvel Studios

Agent Melinda (Ming-Na Wen) may not be part of the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." when ABC's hit series returns for its third season this September.

Comicbook reports that May's sabbatical from work before season 2 ended may be a prelude to her ultimate decision to leave the team. It appears that the agent is not sure that "her heart is still with S.H.I.E.L.D." after the action-packed drama with the Inhumans.

Wen also teased back in July that her character would struggle to return to Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the gang for the newest installment. In an interview with Seat42F, she said that May would be taking a break to "figure out her personal life with Andrew." In the finale, May was reunited with her ex-husband (Blair Underwood).

"I think Andrew was the love of her life and to have him come back into her world, it's going to be a struggle for her. Because as much as she is a soldier and willing to do anything for S.H.I.E.L.D., I think there is a part of her that is questioning who is right and who is not right," she said.

The table has turned for the couple, as it now looks like May is the one who is having doubts about trusting the organization. In the past, it was she who tried to convince Andrew to come back to S.H.I.E.L.D. Now it appears that the agent is "disgruntled" with the team and it is Andrew who has had a change of heart.

Apparently, Andrew is now back working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and he will be playing a huge part in convincing May to return to the fold. In an interview with TV Guide, Wen explained that May will be discovering something about the agency and this will be the root of her misgivings.

"There was definitely a lot of corruption to S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as uncertainty now with the Inhumans being brought in by Coulson," the actress shared.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Henstridge, the actress who plays the role of Agent Simmons in the series, revealed to Zap2it in an interview that Agent Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) will be going on a solo mission to find missing Agent Simmons in the upcoming season of the ABC series. Viewers last saw Simmons before she was sucked into the mysterious Cree Stone. Apparently, Fitz refuses to accept that his partner is gone, even if the entire team have already conceded defeat.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 3 will premiere on Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
