A couple in Provo, Utah, was shocked to find that a colony of 40,000 bees were living in their bedroom walls.

Tyler Judd and his wife had only moved into their new home five months ago when they noticed bees outside of their home. One evening, they heard the sound of buzzing inside the walls.

"We were just sitting on our couch, turned off the TV and could hear some buzzing in the walls," Judd told KSL.

When they finally called in a beekeeper on Friday, they did not expect to hear that 40,000 bees were living in the walls of their bedroom.

According to beekeeper Al Chubak, the bees have been living in the property for three to four years and as a result, removing some insulation from within the walls to colonize the area. "They're actually taking the insulation out and they're putting their honeycomb and their hive in its place," Judd told the TV station.

The bees were removed the next day. Chubak put the honeycomb into boxes to relocate the bees, which were removed with a shopvac. The entire had to be removed to prevent them the bees from moving back in.

"The funny thing with hives is the ones that beekeepers have in their boxes seem to be dying across the county, all over 60 percent since last fall. Yet the ones in homes are doing fantastic," Chubak said to KSL.

An exterminator reportedly tried to kill the bees five years ago, to no avail.
