Over 800,000 units of the Redmi Note 2 were reportedly sold within the first 12 hours of the device initially being released.

This is the staggering figure that was recently announced by the Redmi Note 2's manufacturer, Xiaomi.

The 800,000 figure accounts only for the sales in China, since that is the place where the new device was first made available. If the numbers bear out to be true, then the company has set a new record for itself in terms of 12-hour sales.

Xiaomi managed to move that massive amount of Redmi Note 2s in what the company is terming as a flash sale last Sunday. The company is not finished as of yet on that front, as they are still planning to hold yet another flash sale for the Redmi Note 2 this coming Monday, according to NDTV.

For those wondering what all the excitement is about and why Xiaomi's Redmi Note 2 managed to sell as much as it did, they can evaluate the device for themselves by looking at its specs.

The Redmi Note 2 possesses an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor paired up with 4 GB of RAM. It has a 5.5-inch full HD display along with a 13-megapixel rear camera and one upfront at five megapixels that also comes equipped with OmniVision.

Those thinking about getting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 can choose from either the 16 GB or 32 GB models of the device, according to iDigital Times.

Despite the initial flash sale only being done in China, the device may soon be available elsewhere.

Xiaomi has already finished with another significant event in India, this time focused on the company's MIUI7, but it's still unclear when the Redmi Note 2 might be made available in the country as well.

Legal troubles are currently getting in the way of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 being launched in India formally, but that may be resolved in the near future.
