For one significant week in 2015, Xbox One was definitively the better-selling console over PlayStation 4 (PS4).
That week also happened to coincide with this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event, giving some of the folks over at Microsoft's Xbox division some reason to celebrate.
According to Microsoft Marketing Head, Aaron Greenberg, the Xbox One truly took over the market for E3 week, and the numbers do bear out his claim. Xbox One's sales during the aforementioned week improved by a staggering 79 percent over its last year's E3 week figures. Year-over-year sales growth for the console in June also went up by a significant number, with the final tally topping out at 51 percent.
According to Bidness ETC, Xbox One's rapid rise during E3 week may be attributed at least in some way to the announcement that the console would now support backwards compatibility for certain Xbox 360 titles. The web site also points to the announcement of the highly-anticipated "Halo 5: Guardians" as perhaps another factor that led to the meteoric rise.
Interestingly, even though the Xbox One did remarkably well for one important week in June, the overall top-seller for the month was still PS4, according to Gamespot.
Sony said that a lot of their impressive numbers in June can be attributed to the success of the "Batman: Arkham Knight" bundles released for the console during the month. Sony also pointed out that they were tops in terms of software sales for the month, and that they still have the top-selling console for both the United States and internationally even with Xbox One's incredible E3 numbers.
PS4 once again being the top-selling console for June marks the second consecutive month that Sony's offering is at the top of the charts. Xbox One last topped the charts back in April.
The month of June proved to be a good one for almost all console providers as hardware sales overall were up for the month.
